We were the very first auto body shop in Cincinnati to make the transition to waterborne paint! (And we’re still among only a handful of shops that have done so.) Water-based paints have been used in Europe for 15+ years, and 80% of new cars in USA have water-based paint on them. You get a tried and true paint, but in choosing us you also get to help reduce our carbon footprint, minimize pollution, and protect the health of our technicians.

Family Origins: Our Start

Some of my earliest memories are of my father working in a little 2-car body shop behind our first house in North Fairmont. He worked 70+ hours a week for a meat packing company downtown but somehow found time on the evenings and weekends to learn a new trade: auto body repair.

Two years later a local dealership went out on a limb and gave him a single car to repair. He fixed it, painted it, cleaned it up and returned it to them by the end of that same day! They were stunned by the speed and workmanship, so they gave him another car to repair. After proving his abilities several times over, they hired him to manage their entire service department. He learned the ropes and then went out in 1978 to start Gary Rains Auto Body. With his commitment to quality the business went from the humble 2-car garage in our backyard to two full-service shops generating well over $1 million in business per year each.

We use the PPG waterborne painting system. Aside from the critical health and environmental benefits it provides, the PPG painting system gives a long-lasting finish and achieves a cutting-edge level of color matching. This means you get not only an environmentally-friendly paint, but an incredibly durable and precisely-matched paint.

We use the velocity frame measuring stem. This is the best laser-guided frame measuring system available, and the benefit to you is that your car is perfectly straight! (We’ll give you the print out to prove it.) That translates to better tire wear, improved safety, and higher resale value for your car.

We use a fully computerized estimating system. This means your estimate is accurate, completely up to insurance standards, and compliant with all insurance carriers. In the end that’s less hassle for you. It also makes it easy to email or fax it to wherever you need it to go. Your inbox, an insurance agent’s office — you just let us know.
